Delivery to Sutherland

Page history last edited by Joshua Pepper 15 years, 6 months ago

The KELT-S telescope and components were delivered to Sutherland on a flatbed truck, packed in a crate.  The crate weighed about 550kg (1200 pounds), so we had to find the right way to lift it off the truck and bring it to the workspace area of the 1.9m telescope, where we are storing most of the components while we wait for the KELT Lodge to be finished.  We used the crane of the SALT building to lift the crate off the flatbed and onto a pickup truckm which we then drove (slowly!) to the 1.9m building. These photos show the work that took place before the unpacking shown in the avi file on the update page.

Many thanks to the SALT engineers and staff who helped with this involved task!  Also special thanks to John Stoffels (shown in the middle of the first picture below) who helped coordinate the whole move!
